Today at Whitland Mart

The lamb trade was down on yesterday's Cardigan trade, which saw an average of 155ppk, to 150ppk. Best prices however did get up to 170ppk for heavy lambs and realised £79 with standards topping at £69.20 (163ppk) and light lambs to £59 (162ppk). A total entry of 522 lambs. Deadweight outlets seem to be quoting competitive prices but are not able to accept lambs at present according to some sources. It will be interesting to see how the price holds when they are able to accept any.

Cull ewes are selling well still, though back on the year's early trade, heavy ewes are still selling to £83 and saw an average of £61.90.

A quality entry of dairy heifers a met a good trade in front of a good show of keen buyers. Top price was £1800 for a Holstein Friesian from Jones, Wernbongam, Llanarthne who sold 5 heifers (pictured below) averaging £1656. Also entered were 5 pedigree Jersey heifers averaging £625 with a top price of £760 for a heifer calved 2 weeks.
